Foundations of Herbal Medicine Course: Honor your body. This enjoyable hands-on class offers you a workable knowledge of herbal preparations for daily personal use. Receive a 384-page home-manual written by renowned Herb Educator James Green. Enjoy 18 hours of class time at Four Winds Farm, Quincy, IL. Have fun, get dirty, learn much, harvest herbs, make concoctions to take home! The class is designed to provide helpful hands-on information and experience. It is taught by Holistic Health Practitioner, Deborah Lee, Ph.D.
at her Agri-Tourism business: Four Winds Farm, 3729 N 36th, Quincy, IL. The educational weekend workshop includes:
❖ Safe and effective use of herbs
❖ Medicinal actions and herbal approaches
❖ Outdoor identification & collecting of herbs and plants
❖ Growing tips & companion gardening
❖ Drying & preserving
❖ Prevention methods for numerous illnesses
❖ Safe use of therapeutic essential oils
❖ Make and Take: infusions, decoctions and oxymels, including:
❖ A personal flower remedy
❖ Herbal teas and decoctions
❖ Salves and fixed oils
❖ Syrup and cold remedies, plus written suggestions

Fee: $375: 18 hours, 384-page textbook. Make and take home 7 (or more) herbal preparations that you collect and prepare. Enjoy easy collecting treks to the Herb and Flower Gardens to explore. Light lunch on Sunday. When: April 25 - 27. Friday (6-10), Saturday (9-5) Sunday (10-4)

JWCC Exploring Culinary Herbs: Are you intrigued by culinary herbs, but do not know how to grow them? In this 2-session class, Dr Deborah will discuss popular herbs, along with some terrific lesser-known ones. In the first session learn, learn how to grow, harvest, and use at least 12 easy to grow plants. In the second session, join Dr. Lee at Four Winds Farm, where you will explore culinary herbs in more depth, outside in the Herb Garden, and take some home.

JWCC Wild Edible Plants. Join Dr Lee for a walk on the wild side through Four Winds Farm and enjoy the beauty of spring. Learn about plants that are edible, when and how to collect them, plus how to safely use them. Discover patterns in nature, and helpful collecting tips. Take home a helpful study guide. The first class meets a JWCC. The second at Four Winds Farm, 3729 N. 36th Street, Quincy.

Travel to Four Winds Farm and learn about the importance of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Investigate and plant a variety of flowers and herbs. Prepare lavender lemonade and herbal tea, and nibble berries. Make seed bombs and other take home projects. Transportation is provided to and from Four Winds Farm. The bus leaves JWCC at 8 am, returning at 9:50 am. This class is made possible through a partnership between Four Winds Farm and JWCC.

Travel to Four Winds Farm to explore the children’s garden and create some plant and herb related art projects. Students will prepare some yummy beverages and snacks. They will plant seeds, learn to care for plants and how to harvest them. Transportation is provided to and from Four Winds Farm. The bus leaves JWCC at 8 am, returning at 9:50 am. This class is made possible through a partnership between Four Winds Farm and JWCC.

  •  Visit the Terripin Farmstand and shop for Deborah’s line of herbal products, herbal travel kits and helpful materials for safely making and using medicinal herbs. 

  • Stroll through the Flower Swirl and Sunflower Maze (if in bloom at the time of your visit). 

  • Stop by the Terripin Farmstand to buy locally grown edible goodies as you gaze out over the vegetable fields which surrounds the market. Shop for local produce and products from pickles to pies. 

  • Pick a bouquet in the cutting-flower gardens to take home (extra charge)
